Ominous Crypt release date
About a month ago I posted about an adventure idea I was brewing called Ominous Crypt of the Blood Moss. In that article, I talked a bit about struggling with anxiety and overcoming that to force by brain into actually putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and write some RPG stuff again. Well, since then I've written the adventure out, had it go through several drafts and changes, play tested it with some friends and, most importantly I think, taken the nerve-wracking step to serve it up to those who would probably be interested in such things.
I've written the adventure for Old-School Essentials (OSE), my favourite retro-clone of the old B/X version of D&D. Seriously, Gavin Norman's work on it is excellent and you should check it out. However, while intended to OSE, it will work with pretty much any old-school fantasy game (or even 5e with a bit of adaptive work!). But because of the OSE association, I decided to ask the OSE Facebook group for some feedback and got several responses from members, to whom I dished out draft copies of the text. And the feedback I got was very encouraging, ranging from complements on the adventure, suggested tweaks here and there, through to a very kind person providing a pretty thorough proof reading of the scenario text, which has no doubt improved it!
Encouraged by this, I've laid it out and produced a cover, and the adventure will be going on sale via DrivethruRPG sometime around the end of next week. It'll be a 50-page PDF priced at about $5, and I am planning on also doing POD soft- and hardcover versions as well, though these will no doubt be available at a later date due to DrivethruRPG being a little slow in turning around print proofs.
Ominous Crypt will therefore be my first self-published adventure. I've put a lot of work into designing it and testing it, so I hope it is well received and enjoyed. If you buy it, play it or otherwise read it, I hope you'll let me know what you think! For now though, here are a few teasers...
